Hi everyone,
During our
first Emerald Necklace hike last month there was mention of the lantern festival that takes place at Jamaica Pond annually, and I told everyone that I'd look into it and host an IM event for it. I've since found out there are actually 2 such events in the area. The one I was thinking of (and the one I participated in with my kids) is the
Jamaica Pond Lantern Parade, that takes place in the fall (this year, October 23 and 24). It's a wonderful event, co-sponsored by
Spontaneous Celebrations, and it involves people and children making lanterns and parading around the pond with them.
The other event, the
Japanese Lantern Festival, actually takes place in the Forest Hills Cemetary on Lake Hibiscus and it is scheduled to happen a week from tomorrow on Thursday, July 15, 6-9 pm. Unfortunately, I'm not available to host an event for
this festival this year, but I thought I'd let you all know about it in case someone else wants to organize something.
I will put a note on the calendar today about the October Lantern Parade today so that we can keep it in mind for the fall.
Cheers!
